Some time between the ages of 20 and 40 years women consider actualizing the psychosocial developmental mandate of generativity. Raising a family by becoming pregnant is one of the more frequently chosen methods for meeting this task. The women who make this choice consciously approach family building by asking themselves "when" not "if" they will get pregnant. From adolescence, an unwanted pregnancy is thought to be possible with just one careless night. By age 35 years, women are beginning the downward journey toward the lower probability of pregnancy occurring deliberately or unexpectedly (Berger, Goldstein, & Fuerst, 1989).Eight percent of couples with wives of childbearing age are confronted with fertility problems (Mosher & .
