The measurements of cytoplasmic and lysosomal pH changes (pH and pH1 conespondently) caused by the interaction of tetrasuiphonated aluminum phthalocyanine (Pc) with cultured cells, were performed. The distinct decrease of pH (0.25±0.04 un.) and pH1 (0.54±0.08 un.) followed by the increase back to the initial values was observed during the first 60-80 minutes of the Pc accumulation. Irradiation with light of the Pc-loaded cells also caused the temporary pH decrease (0.22±0.02 un.).The dependence of cell mactivation efficiency on cytoplasmic pH was studied; showing that the degree of photodynamic damage is reduced at higher pH values.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
