Double-chain surfactants possessing two taurine units were synthesized by reaction of N-alkyltaurine (alkyl : octyl, decyl, or dodecyl) with ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether. All surfactants were soluble in water , and Krafft points were below 0•Ž. Cmc values were much less than those of the corresponding single-chain taurine type of compound. The isoelectric point of the title compound with two octyl chains was determined as about 5 .0. Water solubility was maintained constant at the pH around the isoelectric point. Changes in some surface active properties of the double-chain compounds due to those in the pH or the addition of electrolyte are discussed .
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
