The backscattering and absorption of β‐rays by compounds have been measured and interpreted on the basis of elemental reflecting and stopping powers. A straightforward method has been devised for the determination of the elemental stopping powers. The elemental reflecting powers have been compared with the backscattering from elements and appear to be in good agreement. A simple relationship has been shown to exist between the elemental reflecting and stopping powers.
