The Hiroyuki Irokawa Hiromichi E j i r i Ken Takahashi Takashi Muraoka Development Co., Ltd. JAPAN equipment f o r HVDC power transmiss i o n i s required t o be highly r e l i a b l e , compact i n s i z e , and economical. I t i s d e s i r a b l e t o r e a l i z e a compact dc f i l t e r design with t h e l i v e p a r t s enclosed t o cope with higher voltage transmission expected i n f u t u r e and t o make t h e i n s t a l l a t i o n unaffected by t h e elements. I n view of t h e above and aiming a t t h e r e a l i z a t i o n of 500-kV c l a s s equipment, a prototype compact 250-kV dc f i l t e r was developed.This prototype dc f i l t e r has been subjected t o in-service t e s t i n g f o r two years.
The AC filters of an HVDC converter station usually require a large installation space and are sensitive to seismic activity due to using an air-insulation platform. A s a solution to these problems ,we have developed compact filters in which all energized parts are enclosed. A s a result, the installation space is one-third of the platform type and seismic performance considerably improves. After the field tests were conducted ,these filters were put in service in May ,1992.
