In recent years, the production of stainless steels has increased significantly. High‐purity stainless steels have been widely studied because of their excellent properties. The present review emphasizes the improved properties of stainless steels obtained by lowering the impurity contents. It describes corrosion resistance as well as mechanical and physical properties from the point of view of purification. Advanced technologies for the mass production of high‐purity stainless steels and purification levels so far achieved are reviewed. The paper describes several commercial applications of high‐purity stainless steels and discusses subjects for a further study and the future prospect of such steels.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
