We consider the role and possible architectures of access networks in systems beyond the current 3& generation. We consider the motivations for defining specialised iqhstructure to support mobile radio access, and look at the various criteria for determining the scope of such systems. We then introduce and compare the access network architectures of four widely varied IST projects, BRAHMS, BRALWMND, DRiVE and WINEGUS. We compare the different approaches that these projects have taken, and conclude with a view on how this can provide a pointer to fiture access network architectures.
In this paper we define the functions of a unidirectional IP-based file delivery protocol based on research on the past work in the area. We review several pieces of historic work on file delivery protocols and therefore provide a background to the current state of the art, FLUTE, which is being developed towards standard in Internet Engineering Task Force. We also provide a comparison of different approaches and introduce items for future work in this area.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
