A male garter snake (Thamnophis) from a private terrarium was spontaneously and simultaneously infected with Chrysosporium queenslandicum and Geotrichum candidum. The autopsy revealed disseminated mycotic alterations in skin, lungs and liver. Chrysosporium queenslandicum grew well at 28 degrees C, the optimal temperature of the animal. This is the first description of a Chrysosporium queenslandicum infection in a garter snake.
Hepatic and renal electron microscopic investigations were carried out in 10 chickens that had experimental intraduodenal infection with Clostridium perfringens Type A. Fourteen days postinfection, there were ultrastructural changes in hepatocytes and renal tubular epithelial cells; these included mitochondrial lesions (swelling, cristolysis, rarefication of the matrix, myelin figures), glycogen loss, and capillary endothelial cell swelling in both organs, as well as thickening of glomerular basement membrane. The findings are discussed with particular reference to the pathogenesis of Clostridium perfringens Type A enterotoxemia.
A German shepherd bitch was spayed after her first oestrus. She was regularly vaccinated and treated against ectoparasites and endoparasites. Ten years later, the dog came into heat again (vaginal bleeding, swollen vulva, male attraction). The results of the haematological and biochemical investigations revealed no abnormali ties.Sonographic examination revealed a 2.1 × 2 cm large mass below the left kidney. The tissue and a uterus specimen were surgically removed and histopathologically examined.
Histological findingsBoth specimens were fixed in 10% buffered formalin, processed routinely, and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). Histologically, the uterus specimen showed up to 200 μm broad uterine Sertoli-Leydig-Zell-Tumor bei einer vor 10 Jahren kastrierten Hündin. Ein Fallbericht Tierärztl Prax 2010; 38 (K): 399-402
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
