The cyst stage of Echinococcus granulosus is commonly located in the liver, which frequently results in a long symptomless period. We present a sudden death due to a freshly hemorrhagic hydatid cyst following blunt trauma to the liver in a 19-year-old boy. The possible mechanism was thought to be an anaphylactoid reaction to the leakage of the cyst fluid.
After complaining of neck pain for 3 weeks, a 36-year-old man suddenly become quadriplegic during a massage session in a traditional Turkish bath. He was immediately transferred to hospital, where the initial examination consisting in plain radiography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a compression fracture of the fourth cervical vertebra. The patient was immediately treated by anterior vertebral decompression and bone grafting from the iliac crest. Unfortunately, the patient did not respond to surgical intervention and died. Solitary plasmacytoma of the fourth cervical vertebrae was detected at autopsy during forensic examination. Pain and spinal cord compression resulted from solitary plasmacytoma of the vertebral column. However, paralysis, especially quadriplegia, occurs seldom. In this case report, solitary plasmacytoma of the vertebral column associated with neck pain is presented with the relevant pathological and clinical aspects.
Epilepsi hastas› bir kiflide ani ölüm görülme olas›l›¤›, normal popülasyonda ani ölüm görülme olas›l›¤›ndan 24 kat daha fazla olmaktad›r.Olgumuz 40 yafl›nda epilepsi hastas› olup, evinde ölü bulundu¤unda alt› ayl›k hamileydi. Our case was a 40 years old woman with epilepsy who was six months pregnant when she was dead at her home. Although external examination and autopsy were performed, no pathological signs indicating a cause for death or no signs of trauma indicating an epileptic seizure were observed. Nothing was found in toxicological analysis to reveal a reason for death. When external examination, autopsy report, scene investigation and medical history in forensic investigation folder are evaluated together, reason of death is thought to be definete sudden unexpected death in epileptic patient according to SU-DEP criteria. This case is presented to attract attention to autopsies of patients with epilepsy and to discuss the principles of medicolegal approach to these cases.
