Islamic banking has become the fastest growing sector in the financial markets of the world in the past three decades, and this growth trajectory has coincided with the world’s renewed interest in the ideas of ethical banking. This raises the question regarding the actual nature of the relationship between ethical and Islamic banking systems, and the analysis in the current paper intends to provide answers to this question. The analysis has shown that the practices of Islamic banking system fit into ethical banking framework to a greater extent. It concludes that Islamic banking forms part of the broad ethical banking brand, and thus its rapid growth at the time when the ethical banking movement gathers new momentum could not be a matter of sheer coincidence. The paper also examines three business management implications of its findings. One implication is that proper name selection is an important aspect of successful branding and marketing of products or services; and the second is that we are in the age of committed consumption whereby principles, ethics and image are issues of importance in people’s choice of brands. The third implication is that market niching business strategies could bring success if properly designed and executed.
This paper aims to analyze the usage of online marketing as a complement to existing offline marketing practices, with the intent to attenuate financial losses in the fishery industry. The current fish marketing business in Aceh still relies heavily on traditional methods, which, with their limited outreach, cause businesses to incur losses in the form of unsold and degrading fish due to longer waiting times between purchases. Unlike other types of commodities, the shelf life of fresh fish is very short. The longer the fish are kept by the fishermen or traders, the more damaged the products will be. However, the availability of consumers willing to buy the fish at any time is uncertain. This problem can be solved if the products are offered to a wider audience by using online marketing. This research uses descriptive qualitative research that produces descriptive data from respondents or observed behavior. Data were collected through interviews and observations in 3 fish export companies in Banda Aceh. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, based on certain objectives and considerations. The findings suggest that by adding online communication marketing channels to promote fish products, such as Google Ads, as well as joining online marketplace platforms, the risk of suffering losses is reduced.
Python as a programming language is increasingly gaining importance, especially in data science, scientific, and parallel programming. With the Numba-CUDA, it is even possible to program GPUs with Python using a CUDA like programming style. However, Numba is missing support for CUDA-unified memory, which can help to simplify programming even more and allows dynamic work distribution between GPUs and CPUs. In this work, we implement and evaluate the support for unified memory in Numba. As expected, the performance of unified memory is worse than using explicit data transfers, but can outperform the performance of the implicit methods provided by Numba. Additionally, using unified memory can help to reduce the Python interpreter overhead and therefore help to improve the performance of small problem sizes. The use of system-wide atomic can help to improve the work distribution between GPU and CPU, but when using more CPU threads the performance suffers under the Python global interpreter lock (GIL).
Information on the composition and number of catches that comprise fish landings is an essential component of fisheries management. Because such data is especially limited with regard to the eastern coast of the Aceh region of Sumatra, the present study examined fish landing characteristics for this region. Data were collected from November 24 to December 24, 2019, in seven fish landing sites (TPI) in three districts (Aceh Utara, Bireuen, and Lhokseumawe) on the eastern coast of the Aceh region. Fishes were recorded daily in each TPI during the study period, and a total of 32 fish categories were identified. Pelagic fish dominated the catch: longtail tuna, scad, island mackerel, yellowfin tuna, Carangidae, frigate tuna, skipjack tuna, albacore, kawakawa, and white snapper were the most landed fish during the survey period. The study also showed marine fisheries production to be 181,994 kg/month, or an average of 7,000 kg/day. Across the three districts, Bireuen had the highest fisheries production (122,683 kg), followed by Aceh Utara (35,092 kg), and Lhokseumawe (24,220 kg). This study provides baseline data that will be valuable in developing an effective fisheries management strategy plan in the region.
