PHET and PBL: Do They Work Well Together in Improving Mathematical Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Ability?. Objectives: This research aims to examine the effectiveness of the use of PBL combined with PHET rather than PBL about mathematical critical thinking and problemsolving ability. Methods: This research employed an experimental approach involved a sample of 63 students of grade VIII's favorite MTs in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, divided into 2 classes (PBL class combined with PHET and regular PBL class). The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics combined with Mann-Whitney's statistical test. Findings: This research finds out that there is no difference in the influence of the intervention on the application of PBL combined with PHET with the usual PBL group in developing students' mathematical problem-solving ability, and there are differences in the influence of interventions on the implementation of PHET integrated PBL and the application of ordinary PBL in developing students' mathematical critical thinking ability. Conclusion: Based on findings, the importance of providing adequate computer facilities for students when they want to implement website-based learning media such as PHET.
AbstractThis study aimed to find the quality of the students’ worksheet development based on scientific method in environment and its material changes which fulfilled the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This developing research was designed using Plomp & Nieveen model which consisted of 3 phases, namely preliminary research, developing or prototyping, and assessment phases. The subjects of this study were students of Science Education Department. The data needed in this study were collected through expert validation sheet, observation sheet, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of this study indicated that the students’ worksheet based on scientific method gained the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Therefore, the developing students’ worksheet (LKM) had quality.
How the division of learning time and the role of teachers affect each other on the results of their achievement tests. The researchers analyzed how the time of day influenced the results of student achievement tests and teaching methods in the morning and afternoon hours in English subjects. By using a collection of data on the scores of students' morning and afternoon achievement tests consisting of 2 classes, namely eleventh grade at the full day school in Kureksari Waru Sidoarjo. The researcher conducted data analysis with SPSS for the semester 1 achievement test value data and described the results of teacher interviews on the teaching method. There is a good influence in the class to affect the students of the EFL classroom instead of afternoon class. Morning class reached mean 45,883 points with 13,5445 standard deviations, while afternoon class only came up with 36,394 points with 13.6110. In addition, there was evidence of physical fatigue in the afternoon class as a result of interviews with several students. The absence of differences in teaching methods in the morning and afternoon classes makes students experience this and feel sleepy.
