Abstract: This research was analyzed English lexical borrowings in the Indonesian tourism field. This research aims to classify and analyze the kinds of semantic changes that happen in the borrowed English tourism field in Indonesian. The method used was descriptive-qualitative content analysis to the corpus of data in the tourism field. The unit of analysis is the corpus of tourism fields collected from Indonesian magazines in June – July 2019, such as Intisari, tamasya, and Jalan – jalan. The result findings are 25 words meanings such as 12 words did not find changes of meaning and 13 words found changes of meaning of the tourism register in English adopted into Indonesian languages, such as extension, narrowing, degeneration, and regeneration. It means that Indonesian borrowed the foreign words, whose concept is adapted to the Indonesian. In Indonesian tourism field in semantic changes is adopted to the social condition.
AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perubahan makna kata serapan bahasa Arab dalam bahasa Inggris pada bidang ekonomi. Penelitian ini dapat memberi gambaran secara jelas apa saja yang menyebabkan terjadinya perubahan makna pada kata serapan tersebut. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah kata serapan bahasa Arab dalam bahasa Inggris apa saja pada bidang ekonomi yang mengalami perubahan makna dan perubahan makna jenis apa saja yang terjadi pada kata-kata serapan tersebut. Peneliti menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif. Analisis deskriptif adalah suatu metode dengan jalan mengumpulkan data, menyusun atau mengklasifikasi, menganalisis, dan menginterpretasikannya. Peneliti mengambil data untuk diteliti dari Majalah Forbes edisi Agustus 2015. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada 10 kata serapan, yakni kata allowance, elite, antique, average, carat, craft, credit, merge, tariff, dan trade. Berdasarkan data tersebut 40% kata serapan bahasa Arab dalam bahasa Inggris memiliki makna yang sama dengan bahasa asalnya dan 60% mengalami perubahan makna dengan bahasa asalnya. This research is to answer the questions such as what word in the economic field from Arabic in English occur semantic changes and what kinds of semantic change occur from Arabic in English. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method and the data sources used by researcher taken from the August 2015 of Forbes Magazine. The research findings are 10 Arabic loanwords in English such as allowance, elite, antique, average, carat, craft, credit, merge, tariff, and trade. 40% Arabic loanwords in English have similarity of meaning with the English words and 60% of those have semantic change.
This study aims to find out the kinds of pre-reading strategy used by the teacher and how to apply pre-reading strategy in teaching reading comprehension. The formulated problems of this study were: (1) What kinds of pre-reading strategies are used by the teacher? (2) How is a pre-reading strategy applied for teaching reading comprehension? This research was conducted through qualitative research. The type of research was specifically a case study. The participants of this study were 33 students and one English teacher at the ninth-grade students of SMPN 1 Mancak, Serang. Observations and interviews were used to collect the data. The findings of the study indicated the teachers apply several kinds of pre-reading strategies, such as brainstorming, pre-teaching vocabulary, pre-questioning, and previews. There are some students who have barriers in reading comprehension due to lack of vocabulary. So, the teacher applied pre-teaching vocabulary to increase the students’ vocabulary. Besides, there are those who have trouble applying the kind of pre-reading strategy known as pre-questioning. Pre-questioning seems to be the most difficult to apply in Junior High School student. On the other hand, other kinds can assist students in determining a topic sentence of the text.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan varian leksikal bahasa Jawa dialek Banten yang mengalami inovasi fonologi di perbatasan kabupaten Serang Provinsi Banten. Perumusan permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini, berapa varian inovasi fonologi dan jenis perubahan fonologi apa yang terjadi dalam bahasa Jawa dialek Banten di perbatasan kabupaten Serang provinsi Banten. Penelitian ini mengunakan deskriptif kualitatif dengan melalui tiga tahapan strategis, yaitu penyediaan atau pengumpulan data, analisis atau pengolahan data, dan penyajian analisis data. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode simak dengan teknik libat cakap dan metode kontak atau cakap dengan teknik cakap semuka. Teknik itu kemudian dilanjutkan dengan teknik catat. Baik lawan bicara maupun pembantu bahasa –orang yang membantu pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini adalah penutur asli bahasa Jawa Banten (BJB). Data dikumpulkan di wilayah pertuturan bahasa Jawa Banten di Perbatasan Kabupaten Serang Provinsi Banten. Adapun teknik yang digunakan adalah wawancara, pencatatan, dan perekaman wawancara dilakukan dengan menggunakan panduan daftar tanya. Penentuan informan dilakukan dengan mempertimbangkan kriteria yang diusulkan Informan terpilih harus memenuhi beberapa atau semua kriteria yang ditetapkan. Penelitian ini dilakukan 4 kecamatan di perbatasan kabupaten Serang yang semua penutur asli bahasa Jawa Banten yang bersentuhan dengan bahasa lainnya, yakni: kecamatan Pamarayan (BJB bersentuhan dengan Bahasa Sunda), Pontang (BJB Bersentuhan dengan Bahasa Jawa Cirebon), Tanara (BJB bersentuhan dengan Betawi), dan Anyer (BJB bersentuhan dengan bahasa Lampung. Sampel informan setiap desa berjumlah dua orang penutur asli bahasa Jawa Banten. Instrument penelitian yang digunakan untuk berwawancara berupa daftar pertanyaan sebanyak 314 kosa kata. Hasil penelitian inovasi fonologi dari hasil penelitian tercatat 128 data terdapat 185 varian yang menunjukan perubahan fonologi (1) perubahan vokal [ə] – [a]; (2) perubahan konsonan, terdiri asimilasi, lenisi, metatesis, gejala lain terjadi (3) pengurangan bunyi; aferesis, sinkop, apokop; dan (4) penambahan bunyi yang terdiri dari protesis, epentesis, paragog.
This research aims to analyze and formulate rules of change that occur in Arabic borrowings in English phonologically. Thus research can describes vocal sound changes in Arabic borrowings in English. This research is to answer the question such as how are the process of monophthong and diphthong vowel changes in Arabic borrowings in English. This research is a qualitative type which is analyzed and written descriptively to answer how the process of changing phonologically with a method consisting of three stages, namely: (1) data codification method, (2) data analysis method, and (3) method of presenting the results of data analysis and the data source used by researcher froms Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary and Al-Maurid: A Modern Arabic-English Dictionary, and also from magazines such as Time, Bloomberg Business Week, and News Scientist. The result findings are 103 words in Arabic borrowings in English that were analyzed, it was found phonological changes on monophthong and diphthong vowel sounds caused by the unavailability of the type of Arabic sound in English and the influence of sound falling before and after it.
