The steam power plant is the most powerful in Indonesia. The dominance of this type of power plant can be seen from statistical data that until the end of 2018 there were 48.43% of steam power plants out of the total installed capacity of national plants. Generators used in steam power plants are generally of the synchronous generator type, which in its operation always experiences dynamics from time to time as the load changes in electricity. In this study, an analysis of the performance of synchronous generators has been carried out concerning changes in electricity load. Synchronous generator performance analysis includes output voltage, active power, reactive power, power factor, and generator efficiency. The steam power plant in this study is the largest capacity power plant in Indonesia, thus providing an important role in the supply of electric power. Based on the results of the study, it has been shown that although the load dynamics that experience changes are very dynamic, the generator performance still has good performance.
The electric power system consists of various components, ranging from the components of generation, transmission, and distribution. The systems are quite expensive, so that excellent, reliable, and economic protection is needed to avoid internal and external faults. The faults can trigger damage to components, especially on the main transformers in the Power Plant Geothermal Unit 4 of the Kamojang area managed by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy. Disturbances that occur in the main transformers of various types so that the primary protection needed in the transformer is a differential relay to protect to avoid interference that occurs. This study discusses the comparison of theoretical differential relay calculation calculations with actual differential relay setting data in the Kamojang Unit 4 Geothermal Power Plant and simulates with ETAP 12.6 software. The problem that occurs in the main transformer of the Geothermal Power Unit Unit 4 Kamojang area is the difference in the slope 1 of the actual setting data with a mathematical calculation that is the actual setting data of 40% and the numerical calculation data worth 8.5%. Please note that the minimum slope one limit is 5%. PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy made slope one changes, so that differential relays are not too sensitive to the interference current that occurs within the protection zone of differential relays.
In a developing country, the rate of electricity demand is increasing along with the increasing rate of population growth and the rate of economic development of the country. With the growing development of the use of electronic technology in power systems, more and more non-linear equipment is used in the industry. This non-linear equipment can affect power quality because this non-linear load is the primary source of harmonic interference. To minimize the impact of the harmonic generation that occurs on non-linear loads such as induction motors, harmonic filter equipment is needed. This study also compared the current and voltage THD levels based on the IEEE standard and performed calculations to design a single tuned passive filter. This calculation is done because of the emergence of harmonics on a 3-phase induction motor that has exceeded the standard limit, so it must reduce the harmonics. Moreover, disturbances that occur, such as torsion vibrations caused by the interaction of the fundamental harmonic magnetic field, causing higher noise. Furthermore, it leads to additional thermal stress on electric motors, which have an impact on reducing the life of motor insulation. Based on the comparison and analysis obtained that the measured current THD still exceeds the IEEE standard limits. Then the interference that arises in the 3-phase RAW MILL induction motor will have an adverse impact if not handled correctly and adequately.
