Lip reading is a technique of understanding speech by visually interpreting the movements of the lip when normal sound is not avalaible. Also as a primary method for individuals with hearing impairment to understand others speech. Lip reading requires constant attention to obtain complete information. The fact is that students with hearing impairments have difficulty to doing this in the class, because they have to do other activities such as writing or asking a friend. So it cause some of the information conveyed by the lecturer is not to be captured. Considering that technology plays an important role in clouded communication and information needs for individuals with hearing impairment. It is necessary to develop assistive technology that can help students with hearing impairment to more easily receive material delivered by lecturers by converting sound to text form in real time that can be accessed and stored by student cellphones. This research involved 2 programmers, 3 validators, 2 lecturers and 3 students with hearing impairment. Based on the results of validation and testing, it shows that this assistive technology can be used easily for lecturers and help students to understand the material more easily.
This study aims at describing the implementation of Principal’s Total Quality Management (TQM) in Improving Teacher Professional Competence in Private Elementary Schools. This qualitative research uses a case study method through observation, interviews, and documentation techniques at Elementary School’s Lab school of UPI Cibiru, Bandung Regency and Elementary School’s Lab of Al Azhar Syifa Budi Parahyangan, West Bandung Regency. The conclusion of the research is that the implementation of the Principal's Total Quality Management (TQM) in improving the professional competence of teachers in both schools has been going well, on the contrary they have not implemented the TQM principles optimally. This is illustrated by the lack of integration of socialization activities at the planning stage and the lack of effective communication relationships with parents and other institutions. Thus, it is necessary to carry out further studies related to improving the professional competence of teachers in elementary schools to map the condition of teachers in the future.
Online learning has been running in Indonesian universities due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Online learning has become a challenge to both parties, lecturers, and students with special needs. The use of several online platforms for learning has not provided accessibility for students who are blind and deaf. To pursue friendly learning in inclusive classrooms for blind and deaf students, then we need a facility that supports learning for blind and deaf students. The purpose of the study is to develop a learning model that can be used for online learning using an interactive website. The interactive Web-Based Learning Model is an innovative learning model which is designed for special needs students to access online learning more effectively. The procedure used in this interactive web-based learning model is that every blind and deaf student can access learning through various devices connected to their cell phone or laptop to make the learning process two-way and effective. The research was conducted using the research & development method which consists of the stages of producing a model product and then validating and testing the model. The result of this study is an online learning model using a website that can present learning material from lecturers in the form of pages that all the menus can be read directly by blind students through a screen reader on their devices (user friendly) and they can send assignments via voice note options. The website is equipped with videos accompanied by subtitles so that it has accessibility to deaf students. This model consists of the following stages: 1) Planning which includes needs analysis and content analysis, 2) The learning process through an interactive website containing structured learning material, interactive learning through video and discussion features, 3) Evaluation includes test and non-test in the form of process and result in analysis.
