Peri-urban area has long served as a natural flood protection tool. However, in recent years, the city of Phnom Penh has been rigorously reclaimed for urban land use, and urban flooding has increased exponentially. The peri-urban area has the potential to formally serve as a stormwater management asset for the whole metropolitan. This study investigates the flood control potentiality of the peri-urban area in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, through flood susceptibility mapping and determines its flood control factor. It also reveals the suitable peri-urbanization pattern that allows for intense urban development while continuing to provide flood protection.
Global warming is causing changes in temperature and rainfall patterns all over the world. The severity of urban floods is exacerbated by urbanization. Traditional grey infrastructure is incapable of dealing with intense and unpredictable storms. As a result, new approaches to climate change and urban flooding are required. Green infrastructure (GI) is widely regarded as a nature-based solution to mitigating the various pressures brought by climate change. This study determines how much runoff exceeds the capacity of Bangkok's existing drainage systems, prioritizes the areas where GI is required, and recommends the best GI implication for tropical urban areas.
In this book chapter, authors will reflect on the challenges, advantages, and pitfalls of the blended teaching in 2 architectural design studios jointly organized by an Australian and a Japanese university, highlighting key considerations ranging from the variety of learning and teaching on campus and virtual practices, to the design of assessments and related feedback, and the use of various on-line communication and graphic platforms implemented for teaching and learning (Teams, Zoom, Miro, Concept-board). They will also give an account of the experience and direct involvement of both students and faculty during the lock-down, and how flexibility and adaptability to the use of new technologies on their parts has resulted in a valuable experience at least for what concerns international design studios cooperation. As is common practice in architectural schools, the 2 joint design studios focused on different scale of representation and design, exploring issues and characteristics from the territorial to local scales.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
