Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease with multifactorial causes directly related to alterations in the pancreas due to the inability of secreting insulin (Diabetes Mellitus type 1 -DM1) and/or producing insulin (Diabetes Mellitus type 2 -DM2). The main way to significantly reduce the complications of DM is adhering to diet orientations, to exercise, to drug therapy and to glycemic self-monitoring supported by health education programs. The Program Doce Desafio (Sweet Challenge) (PDD) is a health education program of the University of Brasília (UnB) which began in 2001 and has been carried out continuously, aiming to reach an improvement in the quality of life of diabetic people, through oriented physical exercise practice. The patients are monitored in Physical Education classes by filling out daily forms, and consequently, a great amount of data has been collected and stored. Thus, to aid in the investigation of such materials, this study aims to use data mining tools to analyze data from the carriers of DM in the Program Doce Desafio, with the purpose of extracting knowledge and information. In order to do so, the techniques of Statistics, Association and Clustering were applied in the database. The results evidence the need of planning, assessment and continuity of the educational actions. In this line, the work showed results which can be easily interpreted and help to understand the characteristics of our target audience, thus contributing to the management and organization of campaigns which are directed to those profiles, promoting general population health.
RESUMOAs úlceras por pressão são definidas como lesões de pele originadas basicamente de isquemia tecidual prolongada. Sua incidência e prevalência são altas e mobiliza pacientes, familiares e instituições de saúde. Diante desse quadro surge a necessidade de adoção de medidas preventivas que, além de reduzir os custos, promoverão aumento na disponibilidade de leitos. Este artigo descreve o desenvolvimento do colchão derivado de látex com detalhes da elaboração do primeiro protótipo, dotado de um sistema eletrônico para o controle de temperatura e pressão, além da inflagem e desinflagem de ar no seu interior. Conforme testes de pressão realizados em laboratório, o colchão atenuou a pressão aplicada no calcâneo, indicando que o protótipo dissipa a pressão. Tal efeito sobre a possibilidade de se distribuir e controlar a pressão na pele implica na redução do peso corporal sobre o colchão e, consequentemente, na prevenção e tratamento da patologia. Os principais resultados obtidos sugerem um avanço no que se refere ao conceito de prevenir a úlcera de pressão, seja ela no hospital ou domicílio. A transferência e o licenciamento tecnológico dessa nova tecnologia em saúde, visando a comercialização do produto, depende, quase que exclusivamente, do envolvimento de uma empresa de inovação. Palavras-chaves: Biotecnologia, biomaterial látex, colchão inteligente, úlcera por pressão. ABSTRACTPressure ulcers are defined as skin lesions basically originated from prolonged tissue ischemia. Its incidence and prevalence are high and involve the patient, family and health institutions. From this situation comes the need to adopt preventive measures that beyond reducing costs, make more beds available at hospitals. This article describes the development of a smart mattress derived from natural latex and detailing the development of the first prototype, which is equipped with an electronic system to control the temperature and pressure, as well as inflate and deflate the air inside it. According to the pressure tests performed in the laboratory, the mattress attenuated the pressure applied on the calcaneus indicating that the prototype dissipates pressure. This effect on the possibility of distributing and controlling the pressure on the skin involves the reduction of body weight on the mattress and consequently in the prevention and/or treatment of such pathology. The main results suggest an improvement with regard to the concept of preventing pressure ulcers, either at home or in a hospital. Transfer of technology and/or licensing of this new technology with a view to product marketing depend almost exclusively on the involvement of an innovative company.
