SUMMARY BackgroundGastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), functional dyspepsia (FD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are highly prevalent gastrointestinal conditions with accumulating evidence of overlap in patients. Despite availability of a vast body of research related to individual disorders, major pharmacological breakthrough in treatment of the overlap condition is still lacking.
Treatment with pantoprazole 20 mg once daily or esomeprazole 20 mg once daily provides similarly effective and well-tolerated maintenance of previously healed gastroesophageal reflux disease irrespective of baseline H. pylori status.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
