We showed that hydrophobic-acrylic lenses differ in their resistance to glistenings, as one group proved to be glistening-free, but the other models revealed varying grades of glistenings. Moreover, we demonstrated that the presence of glistenings results in increased straylight, and that straylight proportionally depends on the glistenings number irrespective of the IOL model. However, more research is needed to confirm that the relationship we found holds for all hydrophobic-acrylic IOLs.
Under organ culture perfusion conditions, modulation of the nitric oxide/guanylate cyclase system alters the flow rate through the trabecular meshwork within a total range of 20%; i.e. the difference between inhibition of NO synthesis and the presence of a NO-donor. These results indicate that the nitric oxide/guanylate cyclase system plays a role in aqueous humour dynamics and, therefore, in the regulation of intraocular pressure.
PurposeTo investigate the effect of refractive correction on straylight.Patients and methodsStraylight values were measured with the C-Quant (Oculus Optikgeräte, GmbH, Wetzlar, Germany) in 1) near-emmetropic eyes (n=30) with various negative powered refractive lenses and in 2) myopic eyes (n=30) corrected with prescribed eyeglasses and contact lenses. The straylight measurements in each group were compared in the different conditions.ResultsIn the near-emmetropic group, a significant effect (p<0.001) of each added negative diopter was found to increase straylight values with 0.006 log-units. In the second group, no significant correlation with type of correcting lens was found on straylight values.ConclusionRefractive correction with high minus power (contact) lenses result in subtle increase of straylight values. These changes are relatively small and do not lead to visual disability in a clinical setting.
The influences of two benzodiazepines (triazolam 0.25 mg and flunitrazepam 2 mg) on isokinetic and isometric muscle performance and on cardiovascular parameters were examined after a standard period of sleep. A randomized and double-blind test procedure was used (n = 15). Triazolam had no significant (p < 0.05) influence on either of the test conditions. Administration of flunitrazepam significantly lowered values for maximal isometric force and for the cardiovascular parameters. It was concluded that triazolam does not influence performance. On the other hand, flunitrazepam does influence a number of strength characteristics and cardiovascular parameters in effort situations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
