Pragmatics aims to give an overview of the politeness principles, to describe and to explain the types and functions of Face Threatening Act (FTA) and Face Saving Act (FSA) use in relation with politeness in the conversation by the characters in Barbie as The Princess and The Pauper movie. The oral utterances are analyzed and interpreted descriptively based on Brown and Levinson’s Face Threatening Acts theory and George Yule’s theory. This research employs descriptive qualitative method and supported by percentage calculation. To collect the data, the researchers use some steps; collecting the conversation by watching it and listening the conversations carefully, use fields note. Finally, the result of the research shows there are two kinds of FTA and FSA that used by the characters, negative FTA and positive FTA and FSA. In Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper movie, the data shows the using of FTA talked by Princess Anneliese is 3,6% and by Preminger is 5% . It shows that Preminger more dominants in using FTA than Princess Anneliese. About FSA, Princess Anneliese is 3,6% and Preminger is 6,8%. Preminger likes to talk in FSA ways and Princess Anneliese as same as in using FTA and FSA.Keywords: Politeness, Face Threatening Act, Face Saving Act, Barbie Movie.
Indonesia's coastal areas have a large area and potential for mangrove ecosystems. Of the approximately 15,900 million ha of mangrove forests in the world. 27% or 4,293 million ha are in Indonesia. The Sicanang Medan Belawan mangrove forest, North Sumatra Province, is a wetland area which mostly consists of mangrove forests. In the mangrove forest, there are Rhizophora apiculata and Avicennia alba species. Mangroves have unique morphological characters as a form of adaptation to the environment, one of which is the salinity of sea water which is the level of salinity or salt content in seawater. In the mangrove forest of Sicanang Medan Belawan, there are Rhizophora apiculata and Avicennia alba species which have the characteristics of vivivar culture development. From the results of test 1 on the species Rhizopora apiculata, it was found that the highest salinity level at the muddy and sandy station was 30 ppm, and the highest pH was at 7.79, and at a temperature of 29 C. While for Avicennia alba the highest salinity value was obtained at 30.6 ppm, the highest pH was at 7.82. , and temperature at 29.5 C. Based on the results that different zoning could affect yield, the vivivary shape of mangroves also had an effect on yield. salinity affects mangroves to develop, the higher the salinity, the more difficult it is for the seeds to develop
Mind mapping technique is one of the techniques that are very helpful in writing activities and is considered effective and able to help develop the ability of EFL learners in writing report text. This study aims to describe the development of the ability of EFL learners in writing report text through mind mapping technique. The research method in this study is qualitative research with a library research approach, where the researcher collects, analyzes, and reviews scientific journals or previous studies, which are then described and made a conclusion. The results showed that mind mapping was able to help in developing the ability of EFL learners in writing report text, especially in the content aspect, also mind mapping technique is considered very effective in helping to teach writing. Thus, it can be concluded that developing the ability of EFL learners in writing report text through mind mapping technique is very useful and effective in its use. So this study suggests EFL teachers be able to implement mind mapping technique in writing report text.
