Humidity sensors are generally designed to respond reversibly to changes in humidity. However, an irreversible response can be useful in certain applications, such as storage containers, for detection of past transient high humidity levels. In this work, an integrating humidity sensor has been fabricated by dispersing a desiccant (MgSO4) in a polymer film (polybutadiene). The sensor produces a large irreversible response, which can be used to passively monitor transient high humidity levels.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
