We report the development of a compact, efficient and low cost VGA projection engine for mobile devices using LED illumination and a color filter LCoS panel. A number of advances in materials and polarization system design enable a 12.5 mm thick engine, with efficiency over 5 lm/W.
We present a high light efficiency and low power consumption projection engine for mobile device applications. Efficient light coupling and color mixing, high contrast reflective polarization & recycling, and precision molded optics were combined to achieve this high performance LED/LCOS‐based system having a 10.5 mm light engine thickness and demonstrating 8.0 lm/W.
