The research covers the years 2004-2018. Data analysis techniques include dynamic indices, correlation analysis and internationalisation index. Findings: The results demonstrate that for the development of the analysed sector in recent years export sales proved more important than the level and dynamics of domestic consumption. In terms of the internationalisation structure of the dairy sector, a high position of cheeses and cottage cheese can be observed as the main, in terms of value, product group in exports. Among negative tendencies, there are high dynamics of foreign sales of unprocessed products, poor promotion of Polish brands on foreign markets, and accepting sales without own brand. This area exhibits a clear potential for further development of the sector. Practical Implications: The findings give us an interesting signal for building strategies for the internationalisation of the Polish dairy sector, both in terms of institutional support and business decisions. Originality/Value: The study provides recommendations for the dairy sector in Poland needed to boost the quality of export-oriented product groups. Dairy sector companies must attentively observe the market and boost internal demand to better compete with imported products.
One of the most important problems in the proper functioning and fulfillment of entrusted tasks by municipalities in Poland is their high income independence. It depends, inter alia, on the broadly understood entrepreneurship undertaken in their area. Therefore the aim of this study was to identify the factors affecting entrepreneurship in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in 2014–2016, which determined the revenue autonomy of municipalities in the region. The analysis was conducted with the use of a multiple linear regression model. Revenue autonomy, which is measured by the proportion of a municipality’s own-source revenues in total revenues, was the explained (dependent) variable. The initial group of explanatory (independent) variables consisted of 22 indicators linked with the operations of local businesses in the evaluated region. The key determinants of the revenue autonomy of municipalities were: the percentage of commercial partnerships in the total number of companies in the private sector, the percentage of private-sector companies in the total number of companies, the percentage of industrial and construction companies in the total number of companies, the percentage of self-employed in the total number of companies in the private sector, the number of agricultural producers, livestock breeders and hunting companies per 1000 residents, and the number of companies employing up to 9 people per 10,000 working-age residents.
Purpose: This paper examines traditional food producers' perceptions of food quality labels, indicating the incentives and challenges that food producers may face implementing such schemes. The aim is to identify the main factors affecting traditional food producers' adoption of food quality labels. Design/Methodology/Approach: The sample was composed of 101 traditional food producers in Poland that had completed the quality certification process. The survey was based on computer-assisted telephone interviews with closed questions (5-point Likert scale, ranging from 1-totally disagree to 5-totally agree). The interviewees were asked to express a judgment by declaring their level of agreement with the 19 statements. Descriptive statistics and factor analysis were used for data analysis. Findings: Results show that enterprises adopt quality signs to improve product image, reputation, and consumer confidence. The protection granted to food labels by the law may also exert effects on firms' profitability. Producers take advantage of food quality labels in different ways, according to their size and own business strategies. However, the emphasis often put on the positive effects of the food quality labels is far from its potentiality in many cases. Practical Implications:The study results will be beneficial to both food producers and public authorities seeking to encourage the application of quality labels in the traditional food sector. The identified benefits and barriers will help producers to adopt successful business models. The public authorities should make the certification process more effective and transparent, and promotion should explain to consumers what the food label guarantees. Originality/Value: This paper proposes several managerial and policy implications related to improving the business environment for the adoption of food quality schemes in the traditional food sector.
