The results indicate that staff education can increase knowledge, change attitudes, and reduce the use of physical restraints without any change in the incidence of falls or use of psychoactive drugs.
Sammendrag:Older people with dementia or cognitive impairment have been shown to have a higher fall rate (Tinetti +Italic et al - Italic ., 1988; van Doorn ., 2003) and sustain more fractures (Shaw ., 2003) than those without. Fall prevention studies have failed to prevent falls in people with impaired cognition (Jensen ., 2003), indicating that other risk factors may operate in this particular group (Eriksson ., 2007b). The purpose of this study is therefore to identify risk factors for falls in people with dementia.Omsorgsbiblioteket har ikke tilgang til å publisere dette dokumentet i fulltekst. Physical restraint use is still common. Moreover, the findings of this study suggest a small increase (OR 1.031) in the prevalence of physical restraint use from 2000 to 2007 adjusted for residents' characteristics.
In general, 65- and 75-year-olds in Finland and Sweden have a zest for life. Even though the study sample shows that only a small number of respondents have no zest for life, zest for life is a concept worth investigating in that there exists a strong association between no zest for life and depression. Physical and psychological health and well-being are important determinates of zest for life and, seemingly, a determinate for successful ageing.
