Practical experience shows that Leucaena leucocephala has long been used as a medicinal plant. The finely ground, crushed, or chewed leaves of this shrub are applied to the wound. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of L. leucocephala leaf extract ointment against Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The extract was made by macerating L. leucocephala leaf powder in ethanol 70% with 10% concentration. The research samples included seven (7) formulas of ointments with various L. leucocephala leaf extract (LLE) concentrations, namely F1 (0%), F2 (5%), F3 (10%), F4 (15%), F5 (20%), F6 (25%), and F7(100%). Their antibacterial activities were measured from the diameter of the inhibition zone, which was formed because the administered antibiotics stopped the growth of S. aureus and S. epidermidis placed in Nutrient Agar medium. Gentamicin Sulfate ointment and Oxytetracycline HCl ointment were used as positive controls. The results showed that LLE inhibited the growth of S. aureus and S. epidermidis when prepared at concentrations of at least 20% (F5) and 25% (F6), respectively. The difference between the antibacterial activities of LLE 100% and Gentamicin Sulfate ointment was not significant. The capacities of LLE to prevent the growth of S. aureus and S. epidermidis were lower than Oxytetracycline ointment. These capacities express the antibacterial activity of LLE ointment against S. aureus and S. epidermidis, meaning that LLE can be used as a topical antibacterial agent.
Background: MSG has become one of the most widely used food flavorings in the world, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) reported an average per capita intake of MSG in the United States of 550 mg / day in 1973. The use of MSG as a food additive has been regulated by its use. WHO. This rule stipulates that daily consumption of MSG per person should not exceed the safe threshold of 120 mg / kg / day. MSG is proven to be a risk factor for obesity. The increase in body weight in mice occurred after MSG was given as much as 15-30 mg / kg or the equivalent of 1-2 g / person. Based on the description above, it is known that there is a significant influence of MSG in the health sector if consumed in excess. Therefore, researchers are interested in conducting further research related to MSG levels in instant noodle samples in the Semarang city area. Aim: The purpose of this study was to test the MSG levels in instant noodles with a spectrophotometer. Method: The tools used are a UV-Vis spectrophotometer (Shimadzu), NaCl and MSG salts. MSG used in instant noodles, 0.5% Ninhydrin Reagent. Result: MSG levels from each of the 10 samples of instant noodles that are traded in Semarang City, the highest levels are found in sample J of 4.70% and the lowest MSG levels are in sample G of 2.90%. Conclusion: Instant noodles sold in the city of Semarang are positive for Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and The results of quantitative analysis, where the MSG levels contained in each sample of instant noodles in Semarang City show that it is still below the standard for adults.
Asam Jawa dan sereh wangi merupakan tanaman Indonesia yang banyak ditanam dan mudah diperoleh masyarakat. Minyak sereh wangi banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai anti bakteri karena kandungan metabolit sekundernya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi anti bakteri hard candy dengan bahan aktif ekstrak asam Jawa dan minyak sereh wangi. Ekstrak buah asam jawa dibuat dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Hard candy dibuat dalam 3 formula dengan bahan aktif ekstrak asam Jawa dan minyak sereh wangi 0,1% (F1), minyak sereh wangi 0,2%(F2), dan minyak sereh wangi 0,3% (F3), Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri hard candy menggunakan metode difusi cakram dengan mengukur diameter zona hambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Hasil uji diameter zona hambat F1, F2, dan F3 terhadap Escherichia coli berturut-turut sebesar 4,25, 4,38, dan 5,35 mm. Hasil uji diameter zona hambat F1, F2, dan F3 terhadap Staphylococcus aureus berturut-turut sebesar 2,30, 2,67, dan 2,90 mm. Hal ini menunjukkan hard candy dengan ekstrak asam jawa dan minyak sereh wangi berpotensi sebagai anti bakteri. Perbedaan diameter zona hambat antar formula dianalisis menggunakan One Way Anova dan diperoleh nilai signifikansi < 0,05, maka terdapat perbedaan aktivitas anti bakteri yng signifikan antar kelompok. Konsentrasi minyak sereh berpengaruh terhadap aktivitas antibakteri di mana semakin tinggi konsentrasi minyak sereh dalam formula maka semakin besar aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Trembesi (Samanea saman) merupakan tanaman cepat tumbuh asal Amerika Tengah dan Amerika Selatan Utara, Pohon Trembesi termasuk pohon yang mudah dikenali karena mem punyai kanopi yang berbentuk payung dengan diameter kanopi lebih besar dari tingginya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui nilai parameter spesifik dan non spesifik pada ekstrak etanol biji buah trembesi. Ekstraksi dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 70 %. Jenis penelitian deskriptif. Analisis menggunakan univariat dengan menyajikan data yang diperoleh dari perhitungan. Hasil ekstrak didapatkan berat 91 % dengan nilai rendemen yaitu 18,20 %. Parameter spesifik yang dilakukan yaitu identitas, organoleptik, senyawa yang terlarut dalam pelarut tertentu. Parameter spesifik yang dilakukan yaitu susut pengeringan, kadar air, kadar abu, cemaran logam berat. Pada hasil penetapan parameter spesifik dan non spesifik menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol biji buah trembesi pada pengujian organoleptik didapatkan hasil berbentuk kental, warna coklat, bau khas, rasa kelat manis. Senyawa terlarut dalam etanol 51,66 %. Senyawa yang terlarut dalam air 40,00 %. susut pengeringan 7,66 %. Kadar air 5,28 %. Kadar abu total 9,16 %. Kadar abu tidak larut asam 1,83 %. Cemaran logam berat 0,020 mg/L. Hasil dari parameter spesifik dalam penelitian ini memenuhi persyatan.Kata Kunci : Biji trembesi (Samanea saman) 1 , Parameter spesifik 2 , Parameter non spesifik 3
