Optimal antithrombotic strategies during and after vascular surgery are still under debate, and current practice often differs from available evidence. Vascular surgical societies should be encouraged to define recommendations on antiplatelet therapy and anticoagulation for different vascular interventions.
Patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy under regional anaesthesia do not have an increase in total Hcy postoperatively. This finding is in contrast to results from cardiac surgery and carotid endarterectomy in a recently published animal study, both performing surgery under general anaesthesia.
