A quasi-static approach for the analysis of microstrip bondwire interconnects is presented. The bondwire bas been modelled as a cascade of inhomogeneous and nonuniform transmission lines, using the Conformal-Mapping method to determine the line characteristics and the theory of nonuniform transmission line to evaluate the effeet of the variable height of the wire over the substrate. substrate. Line characteristics are obtained under the "EM approximation via the Conformal-Mapping method. The computed values of the effective dielectric constant have been checked against a Finite-Difference analysis.
Possibilities for the uniplanar realisation of balanced and doubly-balanced microstrip mixers a r e discussed. Several novel mixer designs a r e presented, which can be used for miniaturization or for broadbanding t h e performance, using simple and noncritical branchline structures. The feasibility of the structures is verified experimentally. Relative bandwidths u p to approximately 45% a r e reached uniplanar circuits a r e much easier to fabricate, a r e more reliable, and a r e amenable for monolithic integration or realization on dielectric substrates with thick metal backings. With respect to such techniques, metallized via holes and air bridges can be tolerated ( a s it is needed for example for a Lange-
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
