The capillary driven flow of water inside a microchannel with altered wettabilities is experimentally investigated and modeled theoretically. The surfaces of the PDMS made microchannel are exposed to oxygen plasma, rendering the surfaces increasingly hydrophilic, which provides the driving force for the flow. The plasma treated surfaces are characterized using topography and phase imaging of AFM scanning, as well as nano‐indentation, to correlate the distinct structural changes to the hydrodynamic profiles of the advancing meniscus. The experimental results are further analyzed using a newly proposed slip velocity model. The aim is to obtain a qualitative relationship between the surface properties and the flow parameters, namely the advancing meniscus velocity and pressure drop inside the channel. The insights are of fundamental importance in diverse fields, such as enhanced oil recovery, microfluidic devices, cell separation, and pathology. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 4616–4627, 2017
Objective: To measure the correlation between emotional intelligence (EI) and job satisfaction (JS) among teaching faculty of Foundation University Medical College. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Study was carried out at Foundation University Medical College (FUMC), Islamabad, from Mar to Apr 2021. Methodology: Participants were recruited through survey sampling using “Google Forms.”Faculty members with a total teaching experience of more than 05 years in FUMC were included in the study. EI was measured using Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence scale- Short version (WLEIS), while JS was measured using Brayfield and Rothes scale on a 5-point Likert scale. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS version 17. The WLEIS score was correlated to the JS score using Pearson r correlation. Results: Total 89 faculty members had a teaching experience of more than 5 years. Survey had a response rate of 76.4%. Study included 68 faculty members; 26 (38.2%) were from basic sciences and 42 (61.8%) were from clinical sciences. The mean EI score was 3.22 ± 0.70; and the mean JS satisfaction score was 3.05 ± 0.86. All facets of emotional intelligence as well as overall emotional intelligence scores showed significant positive correlation with job satisfaction scores; which were statistically significant; p<0.05. Conclusion: There was a statistically significant positive correlation between all components of emotional intelligence and job satisfaction. Hence, it is important for the medical colleges to concentrate on those practices that promote emotional intelligence among their teaching faculty.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the 7 th most common cancer and the 3 rd leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. It is resistant to the majority of chemotherapeutics and has a dismal prognosis. Hepatocellular carcinoma is a prevalent complication of chronic liver disease (CLD) in India. Primary liver cancer is the 6 th most common cancer worldwide and the 4 th most prevalent cause of cancer-related death. In 2018, it affected 841,000 people and caused 782,000 deaths around the world. Thus, research into the tumor cycle and its prevention through suitable herbal (Unani/Ayurvedic) medication is critical for reducing the impact of primary liver cancer. Treatment options for end-stage liver cancer are limited, necessitating costly liver transplantation, which is unavailable in most countries. Here, we present the results of a comprehensive literature survey to determine the benefits of using various herbs with liver protective and antioxidant properties. This information will be useful to researchers working on liver carcinoma and free radical scavenging, both of which are important in curbing potential carcinogens.
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis among older adults. It is also one of the most common causes of physical disability among adults. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a long-term chronic disease characterized by the deterioration of the cartilage in joints which results in bones rubbing together and creating stiffness, pain, and impaired movement. The pharmaco therapy can be associated with serious side effects and high costs. Now a day’s herbal medications have shown the potential for safe and effective management of arthritis and Unani medicine can provide an alternate therapy for Osteoarthritis. Suranjan Shireen-out of several herbal drugs in Unani Medicine is a potent and safe antiarthritic drug this has been proved in many in-vivo and in-vitro studies. Suranjan Shireen is effective against Arthralgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gout. I have summarised the various clinical studies in this article to prove the therapeutic potentials of the Suranjan-shireen and Talkh with its Unani aspect to help the future scientist to explore this drug through clinical trial for treatment of various forms of OA specially in growing old age population.
