Під час розточування глибоких отворів малого діаметру осьова складова сили різання, яка діє на інструментальну оправку, може досягати критичних значень, що у свою чергу викликає згин або руйнування розточувального інструмента, інакшими словами, призводить до втрати стійкості оправки. During boring deep holes of small diameter, the axial component of the cutting force acting on the tool holder can reach critical values, which causes bending or destruction of the boring tool, in other words, leads to loss of stability of the tool holder.

Особливості оброблення глибоких отворів – недостатня жорсткість інструмента та його висока схильність до пружних деформацій під дією сили різання. Зі збільшенням довжини отвору складність забезпечення високої продуктивності і необхідної точності поверхні різко зростає. Insufficient tool rigidity and high susceptibility to elastic deformation under the action of cutting forces are features of machining of deep holes. As the length of the hole increases, the difficulty of ensuring high productivity and the required surface accuracy increases.
