New aromatic polyamides containing 5-(4-acetoxybenzoylamino) side groups have been synthesized by low-temperature solution polycondensation reaction of equimolar amounts of aromatic diamines having ether bridges with 5-(4-acetoxybenzoylamino)isophthaloyl chloride, in N -methylpyrrolidinone (NMP) as a solvent and in the presence of pyridine as acid acceptor. These polyamides were characterized by IR spectra, viscometry, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analyses and dielectric measurements. These polymers show improved solubility in polar aprotic solvents such as NMP and dimethylacetamide (DMA) and good thermal stability comparable with traditional aromatic polyisophthalamides, with initial decomposition temperature being between 270 and 320 • C and glass transition temperature in the range of 230-270 • C.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
