The fust-order exchange approximation, together with a separatedatoms approximation, is used to calculate the cross section for the dissociation of hydrogen molecules by electron impact assuming that the main process causing dissociation is the excitation of the repulsive 1 3Zz, state. It is found that the cross section obtained with the use of the &t-order exchange approximation is considerably smaller than that calculated employing the Bom-Oppenheimer approximation.Comparison is made between the experimental data on the efficiency of dissociation of hydrogen molecules by electrons and the theoretical efficiency derived from the first-order exchange approximation to the dissociation cross section.t Now
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
