The role of the atomic oxygen form (a-form) produced upon N2O decomposition on Fe-containing ZSM-5 in the conversion of adsorbed benzene molecules was studied with the ESR technique. a-Oxygen was shown not to participate in the formation of electron acceptor sites (A,) responsible for ionization of aromatic compounds. The ionization process proceeded in both the presence and absence of the a-form. But in the latter case, instead of benzene cation radicals, ESR spectra revealed those of phenol resulting from benzene oxidation by a-oxygen.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
