Balancing the academic values and the needs of market forces is not an easy task (8). MATERIAL AND METHODS: A questionnaire was devised and distributed during the final compulsory project meeting to the group of pharmacy students enrolled in the scientific project in the beginning of 2012-2013 academic year. RESULTS: Among the 16 students included in the field research experiment study, 15 responded, with an overall response rate of 93.75%. Twenty percent of the students had previously participated in some form of research activity during their master degree education. Thirty three percent of all students surveyed expressed interest in participating in future research during their study and after graduation. CONCLUSION: The pharmacy students sampled reported interest in research, with a minority of the students planning to participate in extracurricular research activities during their university education, and many hoping to be involved in research throughout their future career. However, only a small number of students were interested in pursuing research through completing a PhD program.
Cardiovascular (CV) diseases are a major burden for all the healthcare systems around the world. Public health and medical advances continue to beneficially affect CV patients health. In the last decades, many new medicinal products for hearth problems were discovered and received a marketing authorization. Elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels have been linked to major CV risk. The objective of this study was to review the medical needs in high-risk cardiovascular patients with familial hypercholesterolemia undergoing pharmacological treatment with statins and the degree of attained lipid control. A conclusion it can be stated, that there is a significant unmet medical need for a potentially effective treatment, which can supplement the statin therapy, enabling vulnerable populations to achieve sufficient control of LDL-C, and thus provide an alternative for patients with statin intolerance or where this group of medicinal products are not clinically appropriate.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
