The growth of the frontal lobes of the brain is impaired in fetuses with congenital heart disease (CHD). This seems to occur in all types of CHD, regardless of their impact on hemodynamics.
What are the clinical implications of this work? This study confirms that the altered hemodynamics caused by CHD are associated with impaired development of the fetal frontal cortex. Further studies are needed to correlate these findings with tests addressing frontal cortical maturation, to assess whether the reduced growth is associated with abnormalities in this area.
The result of our study indicates that the nonenhanced value of the liver can be used to identify steatosis of the liver and to grade its severity. Moreover, the DLS in the arterial phase represents another reliable parameter.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
