The article compares merino sheep imported from Australian plants in 2004 and 2007 compared and domestic merinos of leading breeding plants of Russia and Stavropol. Australian merinos imported in 2004 did not have a positive effect when crossed with Manich merino ewes. At the same time, the 2007 importation of Australian rams by differentiated selection of Manich merinos depending on their live weight and age, increased meat productivity of their offspring but reduced the level and nature of their wool productivity and comprehensive assessment of animals. In the herds of the Stavropol and Caucasian breeds, the best results were obtained when using stud rams of domestic breeding plants.
One of the important issues of the modern period of animal husbandry development is the breeding of competitive breeds of farm animals that can quickly and eff ectively respond to the improvement of existing technologies and at the same time be widely their demand abroad. In order to perform such tasks of course it is required from scientists and livestock farmers to carefully and professionally approach the solution of this problem. Modern practice of the state and development of animal husbandry shows that non-compliance with the methodology of creating new breeding achievements leads to the fact that breeds and types are bred in a short period of time, which does not allow completing the basic requirements for testing new breeds and types such as uniformity, distinctiveness and stability. Such an approach to a very important problem of the development of animal husbandry can lead to the degradation of existing, including newly bred breeds. In this regard, the authors of the article pay special attention to the observance of the classical methodology for breeding new and improving existing animal breeds, and the effective use of scientific developments of scientists through their wide popularization to improve and improve the quality of products and in general the competitiveness of animal husbandry in our country. Currently, it is important to develop methods and techniques for breeding and technological increase in productivity and improvement of animals capable of producing the maximum amount of high-quality products at the lowest prime-cost. The analysis of patent and scientifi c literature on the developments of scientists shows that most of them have not been implemented and are not being introduced into production, despite the significant costs of conducting scientific experiments and, in general, the long, strenuous and professional work of a large team of scientists and farmers.
