The environmental performance of contractors based on the evaluation of environmental practices can support bidding processes. In this paper, we aim to analyze how an environmental performance assessment tool can be used to qualify the hiring of contractors to carry out projects on power transmission lines. For this purpose, a method previously developed and tested in another linear project typology has been adapted and applied to data of 15 electric power transmission line projects that underwent environmental licensing evaluation in the state of São Paulo over the last six years. The results show that the environmental performance assessment tool provides essential information for ranking bidding contractors by their environmental practices. In addition, it also enables managing more effectively environmental non-compliance both for proposing action plans in advance to the start of projects as well as for building proactively the manuals of good environmental practices of contractors.
