The tourism and travel sector is a large and thriving industry, with almost 5 billion international tourist arrivals recorded in 2019, with an annual growth of 4% on the previous year. Yet it suffered a major downturn, globally due to Covid 19. Since the concept of healthcare has existed, humans have been willing to travel to access it. From the spas of the ancient Sumerians, Greeks, and Romans, to the supposed curative properties of alpine and seaside health resorts in early modern Europe, the idea of traveling long distances for health reasons, and marketing destinations for that purpose, is certainly nothing new However, lately, medical tourism has been growing due to the low-cost treatment, Specialization of medical agencies, hospitals, and medical professionals in the host countries. This type of tourism was valued at USD 16.761 million in 2018, and it is expected to reach USD 27,247.6 million by 2024. However, the appearance of COVID 19 has completely changed the tourism sector, where a loss of USD 910 billion to USD 1.2 trillion from export revenues from tourism was reported Moreover, the different types of Tourism and travel industry are taking advantage of Artificial intelligence (AI) in order to perform a variety of administrative and customer service tasks. For medical tourism the development of these technologies (AI, robotic, and so on) play a key role in supporting the medical agencies in connecting physicians and prospective medical tourists. In addition to make it more feasible and credible option for patients, respond to questions and provide valuable information to customers, and allows to reduce the time would be impossible for humans. Furthermore, international remote surgeries will allow various clinical centers to pool their expertise and offer remote surgeries from a central operating theatre that is convenient to access for patients and persuade patients to invest in the local economy. Medical tourism is defined as the travelling activities of patients seeking low-cost treatment in third world countries. Lately, this field of tourism has been growing very fast due the specialization of medical agencies, hospitals and medical professionals. In Lebanon, medical tourism could evolve to account for an important share of the regional economy, as only in 2014, it has generated growth worth of $1.2 billion. In the recent years, several factors have been contributing in medical tourismʼs progress such as medical professionalism, the media and the attractive landscape. Especially the role of media is crucial for the development of this activity in Lebanon, as through this channel, the operation of medical centers and hospitals as well as the advantages and disadvantages of medical tourism could get in the center of public discourse. The main objective of the present study is to present and analyze the flows (both inflows and outflows) of medical tourism in Lebanon.
Sustainable tourism considers economic, social, and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities. Additionally, sustainable tourism development requires the informed participation of all relevant stakeholders and strong political leadership to ensure participation and consensus building. Nevertheless, maintaining sustainable tourism is necessary to encourage a high level of tourist satisfaction and to be able to ensure a new experience for them, while raising their awareness and promoting sustainable tourism practices. This research aims to study the sustainability of transportation in Lebanon in its broadest scope. This will be done by exploring the problems and solutions that can improve the transportation sector. Due to the lack of sustainable transportation, this research could help fill gaps to improve Lebanon's transportation sector. The study relied on qualitative method, through the utilization of Questionnaires for both residents and visitors and an expert in the field targeted through an Interview. The main findings presented in this paper have shown problems and solutions to Lebanon's transportation sector and the relation between transportation and tourism sustainability. Slow tourism is one of the new trending concepts that bring the concept of slowness into tourism practices in the way that tourists appreciate local food, culture, heritage, and sustainability. Destinations adopting principles of slow tourism tau reduce the financial leakage of the suppliers and generate more income and employment to the locals. Thus, the case of "Moonlight farm and Resort at Barouk" area, is the core topic for this study to understand the relation between slow tourism, sustainable development and ecology, which has the roots in interest for locality, community, and green travel. The main research question is ,,How can slow tourism be a tool of sustainable development?". In order to answer this, a mixed-method approach was conducted through the use of two questionnaires addressed to tourists visiting "Moonlight farm " and residents in Barouk area. Additionally, an interview with the owner provided significant insight into the topic. The analysis of the results was beneficial in understanding the perceptions and motivations of tourists and helping promote slow tourism in this area.
