Records were examined of 2,517 births representing about 44 per cent of all births in Malta in 1965. Mean overall birthweights were 3,446 g. for males and 3,358 g. for females at a mean gestation of about 39.75 weeks. The effect of parity on birthweight was examined after adding a sample of 290 infants born in earlier years to women of parity 5 or greater. There was a convincing progression of birthweight with increasing parity up to ten.
