Fibrolipoma, a benign tumor, is classified as a variant of conventional lipoma. It usually presents as a soft, smoothsurfaced nodular masses that can be sessile or pedunculated. Most of them are less than 3 cm in size, but it can become much larger. The buccal mucosa and buccal vestibule are the most common intraoral sites. Background and objective: Plasma leptin is associated in patients with inflammatory diseases. A high concentration of leptin is associated with healthy gingival tissue. The purpose of this study was to assess the concentration of human leptin in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and serum within healthy and diseased gingiva, further to explore the possibility of using the levels of leptin in GCF and serum as a biochemical marker of periodontal disease progression.
Aim:The study was outlined to determine and assess the C-reactive protein (CRP) level in chronic periodontitis patients and to assess the CRP values after using Dental Air Force home dental cleaning system. Materials and methods:A total of 100 adult chronic periodontitis subjects were recruited voluntarily for this study. Clinical assessment of plaque index, gingival index, probing depth, clinical attachment level and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were made prior to phase-1 therapy and at 7th and 15th day posttherapy. Effects of treatment were assessed by paired tests and analysis of variance by treatment group with baseline covariates. Comparative assessments were done among all the patients that were divided into four groups. Results:The results of this study showed that there was 35% decrease in CRP level in periodontitis patients that used Dental Air Force home dental cleaning system without undergoing phase 1 (complete scaling and root planing) therapy. There was 100% decrease in CRP in group D (phase 1 therapy followed by use of Dental Air Force home dental cleaning system) as compare to group C (phase 1 therapy followed by use of toothbrush) where there were 89.61% decrease in CRP level from baseline to 15th day of recordings.
A bstract Low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma is a malignant tumor arising from myofibroblasts, which has only recently become clearly defined. It represents a rare entity developing in the soft tissues of the head and neck. About 20 cases have been reported in the oral cavity, especially in the tongue and bone, while gingiva as the primary site has been described only twice to date. Diagnostic methods include histology and immunohistochemistry. The present report concerns a case of a 13-year-old female child who presented with gingival nonulcerated swelling that was interpreted for a long time as a gingival fibroma. A low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma was diagnosed and the patient underwent a segmental osteotomy of the right posterior region of the maxilla. Introduction: To avoid the entry of micro-organism or their products, sealer should completely adapt to the root canal wall so that no gaps will be present. AH plus is the most routinely used sealer. EndoRez is methacrylate resin-based self as well as light cured sealer. Endosequence BC RCS is the recently introduced bioceramic based sealer. Aim: To evaluate the marginal adaptation of Endosequence BS RCS, EndoRez and AH plus as a root canal sealer to root dentin under electron scanning microscope. Methods: Total 75 freshly extracted permanent maxillary central incisors with single canal were included in this study. All the teeth were decoronated till twelve millimeter and access cavity was prepared. All the teeth were prepared with rotary protaper till# F3 with intermediate copious irrigation with 3% sodium hypochlorite and 17%EDTA.Teeth were randomly divided into three groups according to sealers and were obturated- Endosequence BC RCS, Ah Plus and EndoRez. Access cavity was restored with glass ionomer type II in all the groups. After seven days, teeth were vertically sectioned and evaluated under electron scanning microscope for marginal adaptation. Results: Marginal gaps were present in all groups. Maximum number of gaps were present in Ah plus group. Endosequence BC RCS group showed least number of gaps. Discussion: Marginal adaptation of sealer depends upon the properties like flow, viscosity, presence or absence of smear layer etc. Better adaptation of Endosequence BC RCS to root dentin is due to formation of mineral infiltration zone which results in formation of calcific tags in dentine. Conclusion: Within the limitation of present study, newly introduced Endosequence BC RCS showed better marginal adaptability to root dentine. Further studies are required to evaluate and corelate these findings with other properties of these sealers.
