A multistep synthesis of a metal-free organic dye-sensitizer for solar cells was developed as a multifaceted research project for upperdivision undergraduate students with a goal of introducing students to the application of organic synthesis in material science, and renewable energy research. The characterization of the dye is done by thin-layer chromatography (TLC), NMR, IR, melting point, UV−vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
