The main task of architecture has been and will be to create spaces for the user. Our experiment is based on an interdisciplinary study, combining knowledge from architecture, neuroscience, psychology and artificial intelligence. We think that these disciplines can better interpret the users’ perception to architects and designers, because how do we know what users want and how they react to the created matter? This fundamental question underlines the research, designates its direction and goals. The futuristic view and exploring the user is one aspect, complemented by the application of research results to today’s reality. Nowadays, in Slovakia (and in the world), urban development is funded by the private sector and is significantly limited by the financial aspect of architecture and development, it is necessary to look for a concept that reduces the importance of finance at the expense of quality for users.
Nowadays, strong influence of technology development in all areas of science and arts (architecture) can be observed. Therefore, it is not surprising that some of the contemporary topics in architectural discourse (particularly in the context of cutting edge technologies) are closely related to technology. For example, new mixed reality devices coming to the commercial market belong to the area of research that is working with mixed realities and virtual spaces. Advantage of this technology is that it enables more dynamic and realistic perception of the computer designed world. Recent development and better accessibility of MR hardware has brought higher attention of designers to this problematic. Together with technology of games engines, the new powerful designing tool is emerging. The existence of this technology has an ability to transform design processes in the field of architecture.
The deterministic approach (philosophy) considers natural and civilizational phenomena (architecture) as a result of complex interactions and relations between passive and active actors. This view of architecture has a very close relation to digital methods. It has developed from automatized processes of design through parametric approach to the generative and emergent design. Architecture emerges as a non-linear interaction of endogenous and exogenous forces. It is technically impossible to predict this process (to plan or sketch it). It is, on the other hand possible to simulate it in digital as well as physical world. According to paradigm of emergent design, material and fabrication tool may be considered to be agents of the design process. A long-term goal of the research activities in the collaboration between Academy of Performing Arts, Faculty of Architecture at Slovak University of Technology and an independent platform Rese arch with the KUKA robotic arm is to create an emergent fabrication tool (process).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
