The tension--free vaginal tape procedure (TVT) has been regarded as a safe, minimally invasive method for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence. In a prospective multicenter study we evaluated safety and efficacy of TVT procedure for the treatment of female stress incontinence. From 1998. to 2003, a total of 42 patients, mean age 60 years (range 34-76) with urodynamically verified stress urinary incontinence underwent the TVT procedure. The mean follow-up period was 28 months (range 14 to 32). Intra- and postoperative complications were few, including bladder perforations (4.7%), vaginal hematoma (2.4%), complete urinary retention (2.4%), transient urinary retention (19%) and urinary tract infection (7.1%). Postoperatively, voiding time and functional urethral length significant increased. The subjective and objective cure rates were 85.7% and 90.5%, respectively. We conclude that the TVT procedure is associated with high cure rate and low morbidity.
The aim of this paper is to point out the significance of the rare urinary system anomaly such as horseshoe kidney. Tumors of the horseshoe kidney are rarely described as single cases in literature. Bilateral tumors of the horseshoe kidney can present a health and therapeutically challenge. In this paper we have analyzed characteristics of the horse shoe kidney tumors and their diagnostics. Primary means of the horseshoe kidney tumors treatment are surgical with different techniques depending on the size, presentation of the tumor and other indications. The review of the available literature is also included.
Over the past two decades, integrated photonic sensors have been of major interest to the optical biosensor community due to their capability to detect low concentrations of molecules with label-free operation. Among these, interferometric sensors can be read-out with simple, fixed-wavelength laser sources and offer excellent detection limits but can suffer from sensitivity fading when not tuned to their quadrature point. Recently, coherently detected sensors were demonstrated as an attractive alternative to overcome this limitation. Here we show, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, that this coherent scheme provides sub-nanogram per milliliter limits of detection in C-reactive protein immunoassays and that quasi-balanced optical arm lengths enable operation with inexpensive Fabry–Perot-type lasers sources at telecom wavelengths.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
