REGISTRATIONOF KOTA OATS a (Reg. No. 227) R. S. Albrechtsen 'KOTA' oats (Arena sativa L.), C.I. 8178, S.D. RROII-B-60-2-149, was developed at the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and was released as a variety in January, 1969.Kota is a selection from tbe cross 'Clinton' ~)< 'Landhafer' 2)< RL 2120 3X 'Garry,' RL 2120 is a rust-resistant strain from the cross 'Victoria' 2>( 'Hajira' )< 'Banner' 3)< 'Victory' 'Hajira' 4>( 'Roxton.' The initial selection frmn which Kota originated was made by D. D. Harpstead. Final selection and purification were done by R. S.
