Ch-EVAR may extend the anatomical eligibility of endovascular aneurysm repair using conventional devices. It appears to have similar mortality to open repair with less morbidity. Long-term durability and stent patency remain to be determined.
Endovascular repair of rDTAA is associated with a lower risk of a composite of death, stroke, and paraplegia, compared with traditional open surgery. In rDTAA patients, endovascular management appears the preferred treatment when this method is feasible.
Very low-quality evidence suggests that, compared with open repair or nonoperative management, endovascular repair of thoracic aortic transection is associated with better survival and decreased risk of spinal cord ischemia, renal injury, and graft and systemic infections. Nonoperative management is associated with the least favorable outcomes.
Emergency endovascular repair of acute, complicated type B dissection is associated with significant mortality and morbidity. The overall role of this therapy in the treatment of this lethal problem should be better defined and compared with other surgical or interventional options before being generally adopted.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
