I956The extent of mercapturic acid formation in the chlorobenzene series appears to be greatest with monochlorobenzene, and only little, if any, is formed by the polychlorobenzenes (Jondorf et al. 1955). In contrast, very little mercapturic acid is formed by the monochloronitrobenzenes but considerable amounts are formed by many polychloronitrobenzenes. SUMMARY 1. The metabolism of o-, m-and p-chloronitrobenzene has been studied in the rabbit within the limits imposed by the toxicity of these compounds.2. The main products excreted in urine are phenols conjugated with glucuronic and sulphuric acids. Several aminoand nitro-chlorophenols have been identified by paper chromatography. 2-Amino-5-chlorophenol has been isolated from urine of rabbits dosed with p-chloronitrobenzene.3. From all three isomers about 10 % of the dose was excreted as free chloroaniline.4. Small amounts of nitrophenylmercapturic acid are formed from o-and p-chloronitrobenzene.We wish to thank Mrs B. G. Taylor for assistance with the quantitative analyses. Some preliminary experiments were performed by Dr Z. Hybs. We are indebted to the
This investigation is one of a series of studies undertaken for the purpose of determining the manner in which K20 is combined in portland cement clinker. The present research on the phase-equilibrium relations of 2CaO.Si02 and K20. CaO. Si02 was made after preliminary examinations had shown that the compound K20.AhOa was unstable in the presence of 3CaO.SiOz and 2CaO.Si02• The compounds 2CaO.SiOz and Kz.OCaO.SiOz were found to form a binary system containing one additional compound having a probable composition of K20. 23CaO.12SiOz. Thermal, optical, and X-ray diffraction data are presented and a temperature concentration diagram has been constructed. The stability of the compound K 20.23CaO.12SiOz in portland cement clinker prepared only from K 20, CaO, Ah03, Si02, and Fe203 has been indicated. While no evidence of any other compound of potash in such preparations, heated and cooled under equilibrium conditions, has been obtained, it has been indicated, in the continuation of this series of investigations, tbat SOa present in a mixture combines with K 20 to form K2SO{. This compound has since been observed in many commercial clinkers.
The present research on the system K 20.23CaO.128iO, -CaO-5CaO.3Al,Ol is a part of the program designed to determine the manner in which 1(,0 affects the compound composition of portland cement clinker. Thermal and optical data are presented and a phase-equilibrium d iagram of this system has been constructed. The only compounds that were observed in the system under equilibrium cond itions are the components of the system and 3CaO.Ab03' The effect,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
