This instrument is appropriate for scoring NP consultations and this small sample was rated as showing a uniformly high standard of performance. Some items could be deleted since they do not feature in the range of consultations currently performed. If this or a similar tool was to be adopted more widely for summative rating purposes then it should be tested rigorously for validity and reliability, training should be given to raters and criteria provided by which to make judgements.
SUMMARY A double-masked controlled clinical trial of 5% unpreserved tolmetin versus 0.5% prednisolone versus 0-9% saline in acute endogenous nongranulomatous anterior uveitis was carried out on 100 patients. 69% of the prednisolone-treated patients were judged 'cured' at the end of the 3-week study. This is compared with a cure rate of 47% for the tolmetin-treated patients and 53% for the placebo (saline) group. No statistically significant difference was established between the 3 groups.
Abstract. The solid-state imaging subsystem (SSI) on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) Galileo Jupiter orbiter spacecraft has successfully completed its 2-yr primary mission exploring the Jovian system. The SSI has remained in remarkably stable calibration during the 8-yr flight, and the quality of the returned images is exceptional. Absolute spectral radiometric calibration has been determined to 4 to 6% across its eight spectral filters. Software and calibration files are available to enable radiometric, geometric, modulation transfer function (MTF), and scattered light image calibration. The charge-coupled device (CCD) detector endured the harsh radiation environment at Jupiter without significant damage and exhibited transient image noise effects at about the expected levels. A lossy integer cosine transform (ICT) data compressor proved essential to achieving the SSI science objectives given the low data transmission rate available from Jupiter due to a communication antenna failure. The ICT compressor does introduce certain artifacts in the images that must be controlled to acceptable levels by judicious choice of compression control parameter settings. The SSI team's expertise in using the compressor improved throughout the orbital operations phase and, coupled with a strategy using multiple playback passes of the spacecraft tape recorder, resulted in the successful return of 1645 unique images of Jupiter and its satellites.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
