The adhesion of S. mutans to preveneered crowns was higher than to SSC. Full mouth rehabilitation led to significant decrease in S. mutans count in the short term. An increase in S. mutans counts is associated with an increase in OHI-S and GI.
Background: Remineralization is the natural repair process for carious lesions. We have knowledge about remineralization for a hundred years. However, it is only in recent decades that the therapeutic importance of remineralization has been generally accepted. But when the bacterial challenge is high or the salivary components are lacking, remineralization is insufficient to halt or reverse the caries process. So, there is a need to find ways to enhance the remineralization process and to transfer such knowledge into clinical therapy.
