Exponential pulse waveform in electric fishing gave a significantly poorer capture efficiency than other waveforms evaluated. Plasma cortisol levels were significantly and uniformly elevated after shocking by all waveforms. Mortality from the electric fishing was low, 0·2% overall, with few sub-lethal effects. A 0·5 ms duration square pulse waveform had significantly higher catch-per-unit-power than the other waveforms.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
