During the past few years a considerable interest has developed in the characteristics of the pressure pulse generated by a lightning stroke. Jones et al. [1968] extended the strong‐shock solution [Lin, 1954] into the acoustic region. The assumption in this approach that the pressure pulse is generated by an instantaneous release of energy in equilibrium has been disputed by Hill and Robb [1968], but thus far the nature of the initiation of the pressure pulse is not clearly resolved. Bhartendu [1968] has also published new experimental spectral and pressure data gathered at Saskatoon, Canada.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
