Many dental clinics are swapping analog x-ray equipment for digital systems to obtain medical images in the search for improvements such as reduced costs and better care of the images and fast response. However it is necessary to analyze if the digital images have quality requirements in order to provide the diagnosis in a similar or superior way to the analog films. The objective of this paper is to analyze the quality of the digitized x-ray diagnostic images in relation to the structures represented. The research was conducted in a dental clinic that was changing the analog x-ray equipment for one digital. The results by means of statistical analysis demonstrated that the digital system has better spatial resolution and better contrast. As a suggestion of future research an analysis by dentists to see if on the day of the clinic, these theoretical advantages are confirmed in better diagnostics.
This research aims to map the processes existing in a dental clinic. For such, field research procedures were adopted, which were performed at a union dental clinic located in São Paulo-SP city. The data collect was made through non-participant observation and focused (semi-structured) interview. The processes of the clinic were modeled with the aid of MS-Visio Professional 2013 software, in order to clarify the usefulness and participation of each component of the process. The flowcharts built in the research were validated with the technical coordinator of the clinic, who corrected their inconsistencies with the reality in the clinic. After that, the flowcharts were validated with an expert in management. The results make possible to understand the usefulness of each process and identify both the hierarchy of the processes and the key processes; and provide a basis for decision-making. Considering the business model of the clinic, the analysis of the results pointed out an opportunity of increasing the number of patients seen at the clinic. Process mapping provides a better understanding of the routines of the clinic as well as of their steps, and it may help managers to determine their processes and focus on them. So, it understands here that process management is applicable in dental clinics starting from process mapping.
Despite the scuba diving training classes, many accidents in recreational scuba diving still occur, because of scuba divers that do not follow the safety procedures. Two virtual environments were developed, one for training and another to evaluate the knowledge about safety procedures in scuba diving, and both were validated by: questionnaires about usability and understanding of the interfaces; by experts’ evaluation and by written conventional tests. However there is doubt whether these results reflect a real situation. The purpose of this research is to verify if the Virtual Environment for Training improves the performance and the behavior of scuba divers regarding the performance and behavior during practice in real life. Results showed that in some requisites it did, and in others, the behavior was similar to the ones that had conventional training.
In dental care is necessary to isolate the tooth the oral environment (saliva, tongue, cheek, etc) with some type of retractor. This work aimed to propose a new model of instrumental low cost that assists in dental treatment. The instrumental was virtually designed and tested with the characteristics of the materials used in its manufacture: Solid stainless steel wires of 7 mm, acrylic resin and steel tape. To simulate its functionality was modeled a mouth with the actual measurements via the free software Blender 2.49b. To evaluate the simulation results of the test type black box, where you can observe the operation of the simulator were used. After testing various virtual instruments with the same measurements to assess its performance were made clinically. It was concluded in the simulation and clinical tests that the instrument is stable and performs the removal of anatomical structures adjacent to the tooth, even in cases of patients with positive macroglossia can be used for different types and sizes of arches, in the absence of any tooth can be fixed in any tooth, getting the desired position by professional optimizing the same time.
