In this paper, we present the analysis of the parameters that related to fusion splicing loss of SMF-28 and MP980 optical fiber such as axial misalignment (d) and angular misalignment ( θ ). Here, the Matching mode field and Phasefront transformer model are used to determine their relationships. We study the effect of d and θ on the fusion splicing loss. It is found that, the increasing of d value is more effective of the fusion splicing loss. Where d values are 0 µm and 5 µm, the fusion splicing loss are 0.02 dB and 3.77 dB, respectively. The parameter θ is also positively correlated with the fusion splicing loss while θ on MP-980 has greater impact than θ on SMF-28 which are 8.36 dB and 8.24 dB respectively for the same θ at 5°. Furthermore, the SMF-28 and MP980 structures for the optimum fusion splicing loss are 4.1 µm and 1.16 µm, respectively. Their optimum fusion splicing loss is 0.02 dB with λ = 1.55 µm while d = 0 µm and θ = 0°. These results can be used to predict the loss caused by single-mode optical fiber fusion splicing, and be applied for the optical communication system.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
